Top 10 benefits of breastfeeding for you and your baby

If you are reading this, I’m going to assume that you are already aware of many of the benefits of breastfeeding for your baby. But did you know, breastfeeding has many benefits for the new mother as well! Among which are reduced risk of breast cancer, contraction of uterus to reduce and weight-loss. Congratulations on your decision to breastfeed, you have made the right choice!

World Health Organization (WHO) recommends Exclusively Breastfeeding (EBF) infants for the first 6 months of life, and for a good reason. There’s plenty of research proving breast milk to be the best nutrition for the baby for the first 6 months.

Even though many mothers want to do the best for their child and continue EBF for 6 months, there are many reasons why they are unable to do so. As per the National Family Health Survey, only 55% on Indian mothers were able to continue EBF for 6 months, and that number is up from 46% in the last decade, thanks to concerted efforts from mothers like you.

Among the common reasons on why mothers are unable to continue EBF are minimal awareness and knowledge, family or office pressure, marketing buzz from formula milk and in many cases lack of designated areas for breastfeeding in public places such as malls, restaurants, train stations, airports etc.

This is where O’Happy Sunshine has been on a mission to help new mothers continue their EBF journey. We can’t build designated breastfeeding areas all across the country, but we did come up with the most discreet feeding kurta design in the market, which has now been used by thousands of Indian mothers, to confidently feed their kids when they are out and about living their lives.

The best thing you can do next is to continue educating yourself, surround yourself with a support group and make a commitment to yourself to do the best for yourself and your child. “Mothers who are confident in their ability and committed to breastfeeding are most likely to be successful in their breastfeeding endeavors.”

Let me assure you that you have made absolutely the best choice not just for your baby, but also for yourself. And, we are here to support you in this journey.
